Kathy Cooke

Kathy started her career as a therapy radiographer working in Lincoln then at Mount Vernon Hospital.

She then moved into academia and was a senior lecturer in Therapeutic Radiography / MSc Radiotherapy Studies, Sheffield Hallam University, then course leader for the MSc in Radiotherapy and Oncology at University of Hertfordshire.

She has also been a guest lecturer at Kingston University for an BSc course in Radiotherapy and had a similar role at Portsmouth University.

Kathy also has vast experience in clinical practice. She worked at The Cromwell Hospital in London for around 10 years where she was the Planning Radiographer Supervisor and a Prostate Brachytherapy Consultant Radiographer. She was an advanced practitioner for intra-operative and post-operative planning dosimetry for I-125 prostate brachytherapy and she co-led the introduction of the first Tomotherapy unit to UK (dosimetry / pre treatment aspects).

Kathy then worked in the cancer charity sector where she was Learning and Development Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support and later the Macmillan Partnership Quality Lead for Hampshire and Channel Islands. Working in partnership with cancer leads she led on the implementation of the Macmillan L&D strategy at a locality level including the design and development of a range of learning and development interventions to meet the needs of Macmillan and other cancer care professionals, volunteers, and people affected by cancer. She also worked with the Macmillan Engagement & Volunteering Team to ensure the views, experience and involvement of people affected by cancer are central in all service developments.
