Electrician claims compensation for Mesothelioma |
Robert McInnes V Barton Electrical Engineering, Swan Hunter Ship Builders |
 |
| Mr McInnes, aged 58, was employed as an electrician with London Transport when
he developed mesothelioma in October 2002 and died from his illness in March 2004. |
 |
| Mrs McInnes, his wife, was devastated by the loss of her husband and was very
reluctant to pursue a claim mesothelioma compensation damages. She was persuaded to do so by family and friends who gave
her support throughout the claim. |
 |
| Proceedings were commenced in January 2005. The defendants admitted liability
making an offer to settle three months before trial in the sum of £110,000. This is a familiar tactic by defendants
who are aware that widows in particular are vulnerable and therefore susceptible to any sort of significant offer and
despite the reluctance of the claimant she was persuaded to reject the defendants offer and received an award of
£200,000. |
